LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA---FILIPINO International Master Oliver Barbosa defeated American Grandmaster Alexander Stripunsky in the fifth and final round to finished in a tie for third to fourth placers together with GM Sergey Kudrin at the conclusion of Fairfield County Masters last May 2 in Norwalk, Connecticut, USA.

The Taytay, Rizal native Barbosa and Kudrin, both finished with 3.0 points each in this five-round Swiss affair. GM Giorgi Kacheisvili took the championship's trophy with 4.5 points after beating fellow GM Michael Rohde in the final round. IM Alex Lenderman, meanwhile wound up solo second place with 4.0 points after settling a draw with Kudrin in the last round.

Barbosa, playing under the banner of Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr., president of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) won the " Original 4 rated games tonight" last April 9 in Manhattan, New York.
