IM Cardoso with MERALCO Chess Club President Rolly Sol Cruz
Hey there!
MERALCO Chess Club sponsored IM Rodolfo Tan Cardoso's chess lecture last Saturday at the club's headquarters in Ortigas.
Our informant overheard IM Cardoso saying "I can stay on till the kids are there listening" to Rolly Sol Cruz, the club president.
MERALCO Chess Club has offered seminars, lectures and "simuls" among the employees of MERALCO and their children. It is interesting to see the revival of the club which boasts of the GM Balinas, IM Naranja, NM Lobigas & NM Cabrido as their pioneers.
It is a well-known fact that the Lopezes' (Don Manolo) has helped and supported chess and its players in the Philippines, an example is GM Balinas taken in to work for the company's legal department.
Also, chessvibes featured a story on Living Chess at the Linares. Check out the chick who wore the Black Queen's Crown, her eyes dude, her eyes!
This one will definitely be a hit if done in the Philippines. Imagine featuring political figures in the game of chess? I suppose Filipinos from all walks of life gathering in one place to watch? I don't know how the PNP will do their crowd-control strategy.
