RP's Chessy June

We're halfway of 2009 and more or less, those living within or in the chess community are well aware of the major tournaments in the country. This marry month of June signals the opening of the school year for most of the local schools which also means the chess tournaments of National Collegiate Athletic Association and University Athletic Association of the Philippines opens around July. Busy chess country?

Wait until you learn about the Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship! Almost 2 decades now, this nationwide multiple leg tournament has produced a number of masters that has served the country proud. GM Wesley So, GM Nelson Mariano and GM Mark Paragua are some of the notable names which are forever indebted to the Shell Oil Company.

  • On June 20 and 21 at the Mall of Asia, the games show us who will rule the Juniors and Kiddies of the NCR Leg.
  • 17th Edition of 1st Saturday Magnolia Chessfest (1950 Below NCFP Rapid Rating) on June 6, 2009 9:00am at 4th Floor Doña Soledad cor. Australia Sts, Better Living, Parañaque City.
  • 1st Alamanza Chess Team Tournament, SM Southmall, Las Pinas City June 12, 2009 - Friday 10:00 AM Venue: SM Southmall, Sports Arena 2nd Floor, Las Piñas City.

  • 1ST Loren Tabilog Non-Master Chess Tournament on JUNE 12 at 10:00am at Celebrity Sports Plaza , Quezon City.
  • Taguig City Open Chess Team Tournament, 2050 Average, 1 Master - Market! Market! Fort Bonifacio, Global City, Taguig City, 20 June 2009, Saturday
  • 3rd Letran-Calamba Non-Master Rapid Chess Championships. 3rd floor, Nursing Bldg., Letran College, Brgy. Bucal, Calamba City, Laguna. June 21, 2009, Sunday at 8AM.
  • Regional Eliminations for the 2nd Asian Indoor Games : June 6-8 Region IV in Tagaytay City, June 13-15 Regions V and II in Bicol and Isabela respectively, June 20-22 Cordillera Autonomous Region in Baguio City, June 26-28 Region I in Urdaneta, June 27-29 Region VII and VIII. Venue for the former be anounced and for the latter it will be in Butuan City.
  • Palawan Open on June 11-15, Peurto Princesa, Palawan
  • Mayor Jaraulla and Chairman Pichay Cup in Cagayan De Oro City on June 17-23
  • 10th ASEAN Age Group Chess Championship in Vietnam on June 6-15 (FIDE Website)
  • 2009 Asian Youth Chess Championships (under-8, under-10, under-12, under-14, under- 16, and under- 18) 2nd (arrival) to 9th August (departure) 2009 in New Delhi, India.
