Hey there!
GM Wesley So, after winning the Dubai Open now has beaten GM Susanto Megaranto of Indonesia 4-2. We expect his Dubai success plus this head to head battle against the Indonesian GM will further boost his rating upward and help in achieving our wonder boy's dream, of becoming a super GM this year.
As expected not much mainsteam media support ever poured in for GM Wesley So's feat and if ever there was one, it's the ABS-CBN Primetie News Broadcast on National TV last week. After that? no follow up stories, no interviews no nothin'!
But there's Mr. Conrado de Quiroz writing in his Philippine Daily Inquirer column called There's The Rub in which he narrated the same sentiments I've had here at Philippine Chess Chronicles. Of course Mr. Bobby Ang's Chess Piece column at BusinessWorld will cover it, I'm not too sure though the mainstream readers will ever catch up on it.
Yes, Mr. Benitez may have retired his The Weekender but his call for chess awareness and unity in the land should never die and it is my hope that PCC will be able to continue on this.
Congratulations to GM Wesley So!
