After spending the week with a flu and not showing up for work yesterday, I'm back with a tired and "hanging" feeling.
First things first, our survey ended yesterday, March 31, 2008 and we had a good number of respondents for our very first poll. We asked the readers this simple question: New 5 Pinoy Grandmasters for 2008? Out of 99 respondents, we had 42 who said NO while 57 believes there will be new 5 Pinoy GM's this year for us.
Thanks for participating people! Thanks! Now we'll have 9 months before December 31 to see if the 57 peeps who voted yes has the gift of prophecy (or logic?) or the none believers were (logically) right.
Today is D'day for our youth chess players... The NCFP National Age Group Chess Championship starts today. Here's NM Bernardino's news report:
TURQUEZA, NAZARIO HEAD THE LIST CAST OF RP AGE GROUP CHESS TODAY
BY: MARLON BERNARDINO
MARI JOSEPH "MJ" Turqueza and Marc Christian Nazario heads the list of cast when the 2008 Philippine Age Group Chess Championships begins today, at the 3rd floor of the kaban ng hiyas building in Mandaluyong City hall.
Turqueza and Nazario, both residing in Quezon City will test the mettle of youth woodpushers in the six-day tournament bankrolled by NCFP president Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr. being held to determine the country's representative to the ASEAN Age-Group Championships in Denang, Vietnam on June 11 to 20 and the World Youth Festival in Vung Tau, Vietnam on Oct. 19-21.
"Talagang pinaghandaan ko po itong Philippine Age Group," said the young Turqueza, student of Diliman Preparatory School under the watchful eye of NM Erwin Carag.
The age-group tournament for boys and girls will be divided into six categories, Under-18, Under-16, Under-14, Under-12, Under-10, and Under-8.
The cutoff years are: Under 18-(1990), Under-16 (1992), Under-14 (1994), Under-12 (1996), Under-10 (1998) and Under-8 (2000). MARLON BERNARDINO.
I'm itching to give out my verdict for the Under-10 category but I guess it would put pressure on my bet. Here's a clue, player wears eyeglasses. Ready to take the crown and go to Vietnam. Yes, bring me with you! Hehehehe!
Good luck to all the players, parents and NCFP Tournament Organizers!
