After 12 rounds, IM John Paul Gomez leads the way to the Olympiad Qualifier with 10.5points, 2 full points ahead of the second placer GM Wesley So. On third spot is comebacking GM Bong Villamayor also with 8.5 points. On 4th and 5th spots are GM Jayson Gonzales of FEU and IM Chito Garma with 7.5 points.
Unrated Leonardo Carlos on 6th spot with 7 points and GM Mark Paragua on 7th with the same points. GM Darwin Laylo has 6.5 points good for 8th spot while IM Rolando Nolte has 6 points for the 9th spot and on the 10th spot is IM Ino Sadorra with 5.5 points.
With 5 more rounds left, it would be iinteresting to know who'd take the 3rd-5th slots as I feel the first two slots will be taken by IM Gomez and GM So respectively.
GM Paragua is back in the groove after winning his back to back games. We'll see!
And in the Women's division, surprise leader, untitled Daisy Rivera scores six points after eight rounds followed by WNM Shercila Cua with 5.5 points. On third spot is another WNM, Catherine Perena also with 5.5 points.
And in the Philippine youth chess news, I was surprised to see have learned about Mark Prince Aquino's heart condition.
