MCC's 20th Anniversary

Hey there!

Metropolitan Chess Club, founded by WNM Mila Emperado, will be celebrating it's 20 years in existence. Here's NM Marlon Bernardino's report:

MCC WILL CELEBRATE ITS 2OTH ANNIVERSARY
BY: MARLON BERNARDINO

THE Metropolitan Chess Club (MCC) will celebrate its 20th anniversary on March 15-16 at the 3F of St. Francis Square (SFS) located behind SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

The events are Open active; 1950 below active; Kiddies (under-12) rapid; 2050 below; Dalawahan 1950 below; Ladies Open and a simultaneous exhibition matches to be performed by Russian IM Nikolai Andrianov.

Participating members and non-members will be treated to free snacks and drinks during the two-day chessfest. All major cash prizes are guaranteed in all events. Gift certificates will be given to ladies winners courtesy of RTW stall "IKAW KASI, KASI IKAW" located at SFS' third level. Particpants with 50% score will also be awarded gift certificates courtesy of St. Francis Square.

Registration fee is P450 good for two events with free SFS discount card. Registration is accepted at MCC office located at the Upper 2F of SFS. Deadline is set on March 9. For more details, call 974-74-03 or mobile numbers 0916-852-1069 and 0922-822-6319. MARLON BERNARDINO.

GM Mark Paragua and FM Paolo del Mundo were the first few students MCC has given lessons. FM Paolo, one of our PCC Team members, is now based in Vienna , Virginia USA, is busy working as a software engineer.

Congratulations to MCC!

And here's something we could look into as to the friendships formed thru chess.

While into the idea of friendships formed thru chess, maybe we could also look into the Vietnamese performance in the recently held Aeroflot 2008. We all know IM's Sadorra and Gomez landed way beyond the top 20, we have an excuse for this, we were so distracted with the current political instability in our land. Thanks to corruption... and thanks to the last minute replacements, Arrgh!

Guys, it's the Olympiad year, what we are doing?
