Arrived home by 5 and lost track of time, skipped dinner had a nice read (and feel!) of my new chess book that deals with Philippine Chess!
Let's see...
Published by Brown Heritage
of Herky del Mundo, this book two will be a sold out just like the first one. It covers the following course on chess history with game annotations that makes it easier for us mere mortals enjoy the book all the more:
GM Eugene Torre, The Legend
GM Rosendo Balinas Jr., Conqueror of Odessa
Remember the Tagle Variation
NM Ramon Lontoc Jr.
The Bandal Clan
IM Andronico Yap
Filipinos in the Olympiad
Bong Villamayor, GM in 42 days
GM Nelson Mariano
GM Mark Paragua, Final GM Norm
FIDE Master Anton Paolo del Mundo
Favorites
It's a heartbreaking story about IM Andronico Yap, how his parents were killed in Luneta Park right before his very eyes...
Olympiad stories ...
Of course GM's Bong, Nelson and Mark...
FM Paolo del Mundo...
The favorites section is... my favorite! Hahahahah!
How I love the fact that they used the same format (fonts, layout etc) brings me back to the moment in time when I first got hold of book one in December 2000.Completely changing the course of my chess life!
From then on I realized there was so much to learn, know and read about the Filipino's in chess, hence Philippine Chess.
Write our stories, shape our destiny...Get the book!
Ipagmalaki, lahing kayumanggi, Filipino! Filipino!
By the way, mine is a signed book (of course by the author) which said
"To Kiko Goodventure:
Chess Lovers Unite!
Bobby Ang
10 Oct 2008"
Good book indeed, after reading your post, emailed Bobby and got the book the very next day with "SIG" of course.
ReplyDeleteHope to get the PGNs of the games from the book soon, cheers.
Mabuhay ang mga pinoy! Woooot.
