Since my term break started friday evening last week, I have had the greatest chance of spending beautiful and a lot of times brain freaky times with my small kids (Pat 8 y.o., Ydam 3 y.o. and Migs 2 y.o.).
Saturday I made sure I bring them out on an early morning walk in our place. Since Imus Cavite is really a progressive suburban, we still have producing farm lots surrounding the village we live in. Lucky my kids are for they are growing up in a plcae where it smells reall clean frsh farm air and the sounds of animal farms can be heard anytime of the day.
Ok, we walked with Claire, Ydam, Miguel, Pat, Tan-tan (my bro-in-law) and Joyce,my chess student who staying with us for the whole week in preparation for her Provincial Chess Tournament, a qualifier for the regionals.
First eye opening scene for me and a gauge of where Ydam is right now in Jean Piaget's Cognitive development...
A dog doing it's movement on the street:
Ydam: "Ay, puh-puh yung dog... punat(s) ka mommy mo!" (Ay, a dog doing it's thing... go to your mom and have your ass cleaned)
Kiko: "Ydam, papapunas sya mamaya sa mommy nya!" (Ydam, later he will go to his mom to be cleaned)
Claire: "Di naman nagpapapunas ang aso eh" (Dogs don't need their moms to be cleaned, winks at me)
Lessons:
1. Ydam can and is showing Cognitive generalization skills at the age of 3.
2. Shows concern in his environment.
3. Is observant of the things happening around him.
Walking past the dog and the incidental learning situation, we walked upon another scenario, this time, the crime (or the puh-puh) has happened.
Puh-puh on the street:
Ydam: "Ay Papa, puh puh yun? (Papa, is it a puh puh?)
Kiko: "Yes Ydam, puh puh yun. (Yes Ydam its a puhpuh)
Ydam: "Sa dog yun? o (c)hicken? (Is it a dog or a chicken's puhpuh?)
Kiko: "Dinosaur Ydam! and (laughs out loud with everyone)
Ydam: "Di ah! (No its not!)
Lesson:
1. Observant 3 year old child.
2. Can't fool a 3 year old child
Right now, we went straight to the farm and everyone just raced against each other to run freely with the stream of water by the side and almost ripe rice-bearing plants on the other.
Nice saturday morning with them.
