Should I take or should I not?
Hi! I got this message from my inbox just now...

Dear Dr. Sonia Mendoza and Mr. Francis Buenaventura,

A pleasant day from PASEO TLJ EDUCATION SERVICES. Before anything else, allow us to briefly introduce our group.

PASEO TLJ EDUCATION SERVICES was created this year for the purpose of helping upgrade the educational standards of our schools (both public and private schools) through a series of seminars and conferences for educators and administrators. The company schedules seminars every month (depending on the availability of teachers) for the different subject areas and levels of educators and administrators (pre-elementary, grade school and high school).

To date, PASEO has conducted five seminars for educators, to wit:

1. April 21 – for Pre-School teachers and administrators
2. May 12 - for High School administrators and guidance counselors
3. May 19 - for Primary Level Math Teachers

4. June 2 - for Pre-School Teachers and Administrators
5. June 2 - for Pre-School to High School Administrators

The roster of speakers that PASEO has tapped for these seminars is composed of:

1. Dr. Onofre Pagsanghan
2. Dr. Evalyn Hizon
3. Dr. Antonio Torralba
4. Dr. Lillian Juadiong
5. Teacher Jo Laurel
6. Ms. Lora Garcia
7. Mr. Francis Kong
8. Dr. Queena Lee-Chua

9. Dr. Esther Esteban
10. Dr. Genevieve Tan
11. Dr. Yangkee Agustin
12. Teacher Joonee Garcia

A forthcoming seminar/workshop for Pre-School Teachers is scheduled on August 11, Saturday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, at the ISO Complex of the Ateneo de Manila University. Our target topic for this seminar is DETECTING AND HANDLING CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS IN THE CLASSROOM. The objective here is to help the "regular teachers" learn how to spot children with special needs in their classroom, and guide them on what their next moves are in confirming and handling them. We expect around 40-60 participants in this seminar.

It is in this light that we wish to invite you, Dr. Sonia and Mr. Francis to be our speakers and facilitators in our August 11 seminar/workshop. You have been highly recommended to us by one of our colleagues. One important question that we wish to ask as early as now is: how much would you charge us for this whole day seminar/workshop?

Should you have further questions or need clarifications, we may be contacted at telephone number 410-5180.

We shall be looking forward to hearing from you soonest regarding our querry so that, if all is well, then we may proceed further.

Many thanks and best regards!

Very Truly Yours,

PASEO TLJ EDUCATION SERVICES

SECO AY 06-07
Hi guys! Here's my year end article for the school's newsletter:
Yes! The school-year 2006-2007 is almost over for us here at MGIS. Two more days and we're off to summer break. Since we are following the International Baccalaureate Organization's calendar, we call it summer break although here in our host country, the Pearl of the Orient, the Philippines, rainy days has begun.

For Special Education and Counseling Office (SECO), it was a good, productive year. We had lots of fun and activities for our regular and special needs students. Do remember guys, SECO is not here exclusively for the special needs students. We are here to promote the holistic development of each student and the community.

Parents and teachers come to us for consultation regarding their students, their lives and other pressing matters which they feel is important to be aired and vented off in the private, confidential confines of counseling office.

Consistent monitoring and follow-up of the programs for these special needs students a must and we have done just that this year. We were able to provide shadow-teacher system for those students needing monitoring on a moment-by-moment basis, hence, shadow teacher.

We have continued the teacher-staff referral system in the school. A system where a teacher or staff can refer a student or staff whom he/she senses something out of the ordinary, regarding a student’s behavior, learning growth or progress and condition. This has been proven effective because we have always believed that a teacher spends more time with a student more than anyone and with this, the teacher can sense problem or difficulty.

We also continue to explore other helpful ways of improving the delivery of services of SECO. I honestly believe we have room for improvement in the communication between the office and parents regarding the goals and achievements of our special needs students. A monthly report is one of the better ways to do this, plus of course the existing term report from SECO.

SECO is here to help and promote healthy and positive consciousness in the MGIS community. Together with your help, we expect a tremendous growth for SECO and the school!

Bye everyone and enjoy your vacation! Use your time wisely! See you in August!

My Life's Works
Good day to all of you!

I have started and created this blog after a long thought... I have always wanted to write something about my line of work, a noble profession, as what outsiders of this field would fondly call. My field of work? Education. Special Education and Rehabilitation to be exact.

Let me tell you something about myself before we talk about what we love doing, that is, helping people help themselves.

I have been a special education teacher for the past 8 years now. I have been to many schools, worked with various organization and been with students of all ages for the past 9 years (additional 1 year for my internship training for my B.S. Diploma in Occupational Therapy). My graduate studies is in special education with concentration on Autism and Learning Disability.

I have worked part-time as a resident storyteller at The Children's Library of The Gokongwei Brothers Foundation. Also, along that line, I worked as a Storyteller, Facilitator for The Summer Reading Adventure Program of National Bookstore.

I was lucky enough to have worked an taught as a Special Needs Teacher and ESL teacher at the German School Manila, which is housed in The Eurocampus, now called as The european International School. I've been blessed to work in an Orphanage-Village School set up called The School for Chosen Children, which main foundation is called The Chosen Children Village.

Presently, I am working as a Special Education teacher at The Mahatma Gandhi International School. So much learnings for me and my students. Here, I work not only as a Sped teacher but also function as a Counselor under the mentorship of a doctorate level school counselor.

Well, I was introduced in special education and rehabilitation early in life. I have a younger brother who was diagnosed with autism. He has taught me and my family in more ways than one could ever imagine. In our later posts, I will make sure you get to meet him, Jaime Antonio or Jay for short.

One of the reasons I put this up is I want to keep an online record of my works and events. Stories that would make us laugh, cry, learn and earn! Stories that we take for granted but for others, their life.

In the coming days and weeks, I will be writing a lot of traiing modules for everyone to learn and hopefully these write ups will be used to further the conditions of our beloved students, children and adults as well.

Education and rehabilitation blog is for everyone wanting to know about it. May we be able to share the journey we call life thru this blog.

God bless to all! Queen of Heaven, Pray for us!

Right now, am planning to promote this blog of ours in various online groups and other educational websites.

Till then guys!
