Scholastic Sports in Cavite

Hello everyone.

The Season of Christmas is right around the bend and we all know why. The nights are earlier, longer and colder. No need to run those AC's full blast and then wake up in the middle of the night just to have it switched off. Y'all better lay down those extra linens and put on extra clothes before going to bed to give you a fighting chance against freezing temperature at night.
And while the "bed" weather is getting colder, inter-scholastic sports in Cavite is on the rise and it's getting hotter every minute of the day.

PCU-Dasmarinas Football dominates City Meet 2019 by winning the grade school and high school divisions. For the grade school team, they have won it for the seventh time and high school does a three-peat.

While we're at it, the Imus Football League is in full swing. The University of Perpetual Help-Calamba and Lyceum University of the Philippines-Cavite leads the 6-team tournament undefeated after Day 3. Cellar-dwellers are the ESS-Seton Saints and on the fifth spot is Imus United FC U17 team.  In the middle of the standings are EAC-Cavite Alumni and Imus Go-for-Gold teams at 3rd and 4th spots respectively.

And the 7th Amihan Cup opens on November 17 at the PCU-D’s football field. Several age groups are open for registration now.

By now the world knows that Cavite-born super GM Wesley So claimed the 1st Fischer Random Chess Championship by demolishing fellow super GM and current classical world Champion GM Magnus Carlsen. The Wesley did not lose a single game against Magnus in the said world championship. Congratulations Wes!

In basketball and volleyball, the Inter-School Basketball League and Inter-School Volleyball League, ISBL/ISVL meeting will be opening their games this November and the host venue will be St. Francis of Assisi-Bacoor City. The leagues have been around and have a huge following from around the province. This coincides with CALPS or Cavite Athletic League of Private Schools headed by Mr. Vincent de La Cerna, a teacher, pastor, basketball coach, and official.

And for two Saturdays this November, the 3x3 Age Group Championship of Scholastic Basketball Camp will be held in two different venues. For the younger age groups (Under 11 and Under 13) the games will be held at the Basketball Court of Phase c Treelane 3 Subdivision, Bayan Luma 6 on November 9. And in the older age groups (Under15, Under 17 and Under 19), the venue will be at the basketball court of The Village, Bayan Luma 3 on November 16.

Scholastic Basketball Camp (SBC) runs its developmental basketball tournaments, clinics, and camps on a year-round basis. The Personalized Intensive Training is a once-a-week training with Coach Francis and several coaching staff teaching the kids life skills thru basketball. Summer Camp and the once-in-a-blue-moon Winter Camp is also offered by SBC. 3x3 Age Group Championships and Founders’ Cup are into Season 2 now.  Coach Francis and his partners are envisioning an international-mindedness approach to delivering the services to those who need it most. Slowly and with a careful approach to expansion, basketball is experienced in the SBC way.

With the help of several individuals and friends, the vision is carried out through their aid. Reaching out to several public school students and out-of-school-youth and providing them the opportunity to play and participate, SBC is persevering to deliver its promise.

With all gratitude and humility, Scholastic Basketball Camp sends their heartfelt Salamat po to the following: Ms. Beck Madeja Velasquez of Pulso ng Makabagong Cavitenyo who took a chance on me; to Retired General and Board of Director Gamaliel Cruz of La Trinidad Academy for supporting sports in general and basketball specifically; to my friends Dan Leal of Fil-Australia, Mark Ranet, Nats Tangonan of iCare Intervention Center and Related Exceptionalities, Cynthia Magnawa of the FilCanada Community and Joseph Masinas.

Making sure the kids are served better, these guys contributed too in one way or another to the success of SBC: Leo Panaligan of NJ, Tina Holl of GER, Carlos Ansus, Elen Distor and BJ De Guzman.

It hasn't been easy this season with the departure of one major partner for Scholastic. But with God's grace, we are strengthened to continue and deliver.

All for the Glory of God!

Semper ad Meliora!

2019 Southeast Asian Games

The 2019 Asian Southeast Games will be the 30th edition of the Southeast Asian Games. Also known as the 2019 SEA Games, the biennial international multi-sport event will be held in the Philippines from the 30th of November to the 11th of December of 2019.

This will be the first time SEA Games will be decentralized with sports competition venues are spread in (23) twenty-three cities, 4 clusters in Luzon.  CALABARZON Region, specifically Cavite and Laguna, hosts several competitions throughout the two weeks.

Our country is hosting this regional event for the fourth time since 2005. Before this, we had the games on our shores in 1981 and 1991. Take note also that this is the first time e-sports and obstacle course was included in the competitions making this
This edition is most notable for having e-sports and obstacle course as part of the games. 2019 SEA so far, has the highest number of sports in the history of the games, with a total of 56.

This edition also showed us politics showing its head, an ugly and monstrous one, in several instances. First the hosting of events. As early as 2015, there have been several pull-outs from would-be and assigned hosts. First was Brunei Darussalam, citing "financial and logistical reasons”. Then the Philippines but pulled-out in July because of Marawi Seige but had a change of heart in August of the same year 2017.

And then the guys who would be in charge of the games. Several name changes, all in the name of sports (daw!)

As always, Philippine sports reflect the Philippine society as it was, as it is and as it will be. Because I intend to make this post informative and not political, I’d like to share the official webpage for the games and helpful links for you to visit as a guide for the games.

Here they are:

Dust and Cobwebs on our Blog

Hey there!

It has been months since I last posted here at the Cavite Football Academy blog. So much has happened since July up to this day. So let's round them up and be impressed with what our guys have been accomplishing while I gather these dust and cobwebs on our blog.

PCU-Dasmarinas High School Team. RIFA 2019-2020 Finalist.
PCU-Dasmarinas High School Football Team is playing in the Championship game of the Rizal Football Association (RIFA). RIFA is one of the toughest football tournaments in the country and to play in the finals says a lot about the program in PCU.

Bacoor City Meet Champions. Team UPHSD-Molino 2019-2020.

Fun times!
In Bacoor City DEPED Sports Meet, the University of Perpetual Help-Molino High School wins the gold and so is the Lyceum University of the General Trias City. In Imus City, Elizabeth Seton-South wins the gold for High School while Governor D.M. Camerino wins their back-to-back championship in the Elementary division. These teams will represent the Cities of Bacoor, General Trias, and Imus respectively, either in the Provincial Meet or straight to the Regionals, STCAA.

In the Season 2 of Speed Regalo-Youth Football League, players from around Metro Manila and neighboring provinces are having the time of their lives as they play for their clubs. Although the scheduling is truly heavy, Sundays and Saturdays have games, YFL has continued to provide the much needed year-round football competitions for our budding athletes.

Meanwhile, Cavite Football Academy, its players, coaches, and parents, visited the Governor's Office and presented their achievements to Governor Jonvic Remulla. Here are some photos I got from our group.

Successful 2019 Men's AOFC Cup held in the Philippines

Congratulations to Philippine Floorball Association for a successful staging of the 2019 Men's Asia Oceania Floorball Confederation Cup held in Alonte Sports Arena, Binan City, Laguna from July 7 to 12. This was a "first" for PFA and they did it with flying colors.
Eight teams participated in the tournament including the host country, it was a historic event and will surely boost the sports' awareness in the Philippines. Our very own Team Philippines shocks the Floorball World and scored an upset versus a solid South Korean Team in their Battle for Third match with a score of 6-5.

It was Ryan Hallden's heroics that gave the Philippines the Bronze and a better finish compared from 2017 where we ranked 8th out of 8 teams.
And in the championship game, Team Singapore finished the tournament super-strong by staying  undefeated and demolishes Team Thailand 17 to 1.

And in the lower half of the finishers, we have Japan on fifth, Malaysia, India and Pakistan. Please visit the following sites and links for a more detailed news reports:
Once again, congratulations to the floorball community of the Philippines! Keep playing!

Here is the schedule for Cavite Teamin the U15 national Championship:

13 Things You May Not Know About Pilipinas Floorball

What do we know about Floorball? What do we know about Philippine Floorball? And how important is the development of floorball in the Philippines?

Let's try to answer them one by one.

How important is the development of floorball in our country?

Floorball is an addition to the number of sports the people can choose to play as part of their fitness, leisure and socialization. It gives the youth an opportunity to be involved in a sport where they'll run, compete with other players.

Floorball anyone? gives you an idea of what the game is all about and I promise you, I'll share more about the game in the following days to come.

And what has been happening to floorball in the Philippines? Got any idea?

So why floorball? Floorball is a team game played with six players, including one goalkeeper. It is very much like the game of hockey minus the ice floor. A stick is used to shoot a plastic, hollow ball by players to score (in a goal).

Like what I said in my previous post, Floorball Anyone?, floorball is easy to play: a stick, a ball and a mate will get you going.

Let's get know floorball, I mean Pilipinas Floorball, with these little known facts we've found online. So what are the13 things you may not know about Pilipinas Floorball?

1.   The very first introduction (according to the official written history of the Philippine Floorball Association) of floorball in the Philippines can be traced back in early 2000s when a set of floorball equipment was given to the Ateneo de Manila High School in Quezon city.

* I wouldn't discount the fact that floorball sticks, balls and other equipment may have been sent to a relative in the Philippines by a Filipino residing in one of the "floorball countries". The recipient may have been playing them or putting them on display or something like that. Who knows right?

2. Frederick Bergren, a Scandinavian missionary, is considered as the one responsible for introducing and teaching floorball in Metro Manila among the urban poor children.

3. Kreative Kids, a homeschool group, was one of Bergren's group to teach with coaches Ryan Elizaga and Toti Andes helping out. They were also responsible for communicating with the International Floorball Federation for requesting for equipment and start-up materials.

4. Sometime in 2009, floorball games were played regularly at the Greenhills Christian Fellowship. Athletes in Action, an evangelical group, introduced the sport to University of the Philippines-Diliman and University of Makati.

5. Floorball Philippines, the national organization, was formed in April 2011 and on May 8 of the same year, was officially recognized by IFF as the 53rd member country

6. Floorball Philippines was changed to Philippine Floorball Association (PFA) and was as officially registered on April 10, 2015 at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a non-profit sport organization.

7. The Philippine Floorball League (PFL)the seasonal league competition of floorball clubs in the country, was launched in 2012. Floorball's growth is on a steady rise, thanks to the scholastic bases established around the country.

8.  The four founding clubs of PFA are: UP Floorball Club, University of Makati Floorball, University of Asia & the Pacific-Dragons, and the De La Salle Zobel.

9. The Philippines sent out its national teams(Men's and Women's), for the first time, in December 2014, in the 1st Southeast Asian Floorball Championships held in Singapore.

10. Floorball was included for the very first time in the Southeast Asian Games 2015 and the Philippines was represented in the men's tournament of four countries.

11. Philippine Floorball Association is working on the inclusion of floorball in the Palarong Pambansa. It may come to reality sooner that you think.

12. There are twelve (12) regular PFA Member clubs and six (6) provisional members ranging from corporate, scholastic and community-based clubs.

13. Philippine Floorball Blog is here to spread the news.
