Rehash: UAAP 81 Football Ateneo Crowned Kings, La Salle Crowned as Queens

Here's a throwback, although it's not Thursday.

In the UAAP Season 81 Women's Football Finals, at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, De La Salle University completed a three-peat women's football championship with a 2-0 win over Far Eastern University.

It was a battle between the two most winning women's soccer programs, as each university boasted ten women's soccer championships.

In the Men's division, Ateneo de Manila University does a comeback as they defeated De La Salle University 2-1 to reclaim the throne and be the Kings of Football for UAAP Season 81.

What do we know about scholastic football in our country?

Philippine Football in One Weekend

The past weekend showed us how volatile life can be. One big news after another came in thru my social media accounts. Here they are, one by one.

CORRECTION CORRECTION CORRECTION CORRECTION

And with the win, DLSU will be playing in the Semi-Finals (FINAL FOUR) against the defending champion, University of the Philippines.

My former student, Xavi Zubiri, scores the lone goal in the UAAP Men's Football Q'FINALS encounter against Far Eastern University.

My news feed was flooded with #football #dlsu #finalfour and so I checked for any videos online and here's what I found:

===============================================

The weekend games at Speed Regalo Youth Football League continues at the Alabang Country Club. Visit these links to get the updates of standings for each age groups:

Team Standings: U7, U9, U11, U13, U15 and U17.

The Youth Football League, on its third year, has become, and remains to be, the elite youth league in the country. It won't be surprising for UAAP and NCAA teams to "fish out" players from here. Divisions U15 and U17 are the feeder age groups for them.

Every weekend, when I set foot at the ACC grounds, I am in awe of the relevance of the league to the grassroots development of football in the country. Always!

News from 62nd Edition of DEPED Palarong Pambansa:

National Capital Region are the over-all champions with 213 Gold medals, followed at second by Region 4A- CALABARZON with 188 Gold medals and on third is the Region 6 - Western Visayas with 147 Gold medals.

And in the Football event, the championship matches for grade school and high school went to Western Visayas and Central Visayas.

Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVRAA) won the championship for the Grade school division and in the Secondary division, it was the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association who took the spotlight.

And just when I was about to wrap up my weekend, coming from my son's training with GAU, J, another former student of mine who has worked professionally with a football club from the north, that something's happening, something is coming out.

What?

Then I followed up with J, and all he said was "Yes Mr Francis, it's really happening..."

But the next few public statements made were hopeful.

Let's see what happens next.

As for me, I'll be glad to see football played in the youth section, in the scholastic level. If it must be, then let the collegiate football show us first how exciting this beautiful game can be.

Danke!

Football Clinics and Open Play in Cavite

Hello! What's up everyone?

I have something to tell you just in case you didn't know. Agua de Mayo happened right on the first day of May. Here's something I found online when I typed-in "first rains of May":

"AGUA de Mayo—a Spanish term which means “water of May”—refers to the first rainfall of May that is believed to have healing properties.

The rain drew much attention as it became a trending topic in Twitter, a social networking site. Questions about the “miracle” that comes with it have been raised here and there.

However, according to reports, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that there is no truth to the belief that Agua de Mayo brings healing."

And yes, April is gone and for most of our young ones, June is merely five weeks away. The'll be back in the classrooms soon.

So what can our soon-to-be-classroom-loungers do in the next five weeks?

Send them to football clinics and open plays, As-Soon-As-Possible!

I'm sharing some of the announcements here, I am in no way paid to run these posters here. You may call them directly.

Immaculate Conception Academy in Dasmarinas City is the feeder program of Emilio Aguinaldo College for the Philippines' National Collegiate Athletic Association. Why not start connecting with the coaches there if you wish your son's football skills be showcased in the nationals?

For an inspiration, check out my former student at Beacon School with the news Xavi Zubiri Brings La Salle to Final Four, my boy wearing Jersey #15.

Futbol Fanatics is the first football school my sons joined and learned from. I think their summer camp ends with the Belo Cup at the Cuenca Field in Ayala Alabang Village.

For those residing in the "upland" part (Dasmarinas, Silang, Trece Martirez, General Trias and Tagaytay), check out Coach Segundo "Gonie" Seluria Jr.'s Football Clinic:

PCU-Damarinas Football Clinic
Saturdays
4 PM to 6 PM with PCU Club UNTIL 1st Week of June
3x a week after 1st week of June
12 sessions
Php 2,500.00 for Non-PCU Students
Php 2,000.00 for PCU Students
Starts May 4, 2005

And if you want them to get a "feel" of the game, you can bring them to an Open Play. What is an open play? It's like a pick-up game in basketball. Providing your child the opportunity to play the game will allow them to find out if it is something they want to pursue. King's Alley Football does just that.

Play on!
