Founders' Cup: Day 3 Match Results, Photos and Videos

Scholastic Basketball Camp-Founders' Cup - Our Day 3 games have been played and what an exciting day it was for Founders' Cup. We had our usual six-game schedule and the results are here:
16 & Under Division:

La Camelle School (59)  Win vs SV Montessori (40)
La Trinidad Academy (45) vs Charis Christian Institute (53) Win

12 & Under DIvision:

La Trinidad Academy Team A Win (54) vs La Camelle School (24)
La Trinidad Academy Team B Win (20) vs SV Montessori (10)
SV Montessory vs La Camelle School (Winner by Default)
La Trinidad Academy Team A (45) vs Charis Christian Academy (53) Win

Our tournament team standings have been updated. For the 16 & Under division, Charis Christian Institute is on top with 3 wins in as many games. On second spot is La Trinidad Academy with two wins and one lose. With one win and 3 losses is La Camelle School on third spot and SV Montessori is yet to get that first win.

In the 12 & Under division, Charis Christian Institute forces a two-way with La Trinidad Academy Team A when they beat the latter with a score of 53-45. It was a tight ballgame the entire four quarters with both teams running the ground non-stop. Up until the one minute and 25 seconds, CCI was only up by five points. With a couple of turn-overs for LTA-Team A, CCI went on to finish the game with a bigger margin, 53-45. On second spot is La Camelle School with three wins and one lose. SV Montessori, is yet to get that first win.

In the 12 & Under division, SV Montessori played with all their might and heart. Playing with only four players for the entire game, they led most of the first half. It didn't matter and it didn't show that they were missing a player at all. In fact, most of the coaches agreed they could have won the game if there was a fifth player for SVM.

In the same division, the match between CCI and LTA was a showdown and it all went in favor of the team that finds the player in a better scoring position, Charis Christian Institute would always find their teammates free or closer to the basket. What a great way to honor the game, playing as a team.

We are now officially in the second round of the tournament.  If the trend continues, LTA and CCI , current leaders of the tournament, will give us a treat for the championship.

We're halfway there! Lez' go Founders!

2012 JBS Manila Chess Battle II

The results are in for the JBS Manila Chess Battle II which happened over the weekend at Robinson-Otis, Paco, Manila. There were three divisions: Open, Rating 1950 & Below and the 14 and Under.

In the Open division, IM Barlo Nadera claimed the Championship spot with six points and higher tie-break points over the other six-pointers. On second place is FM Paulo Bersamina, third is Narquingel Reyes, fourth is Jerad Docena and on fifth is Ruel Abelgas. They make-up the top five finishers of the Open division, each having six points.

On sixth spot with 5 points is GM Bong Antonio. The Open division had 120 players and looking at the list, Bong Antonio was the only GM to play in the event. The usuals were not around like Dableo, Dimakiling, Paragua, Torre, Barbosa, Laylo and Bitoon. Except for FM Paulo Bersamina, there weren't any participants from the youngsters like Mejia, Garcia and So Kua.

I wonder whatever happened to the Ochoa brothers.

Here is final standings for the Open Division:

Results of 2012 Open Division, JBS Manila Chess Battle II

And in the 1950 and Below, there's not much news except that it was won by Genghis Imperial and followed by Jan Roldan Oriendo.

Last Move from NBS First Move Tournament

Do you remember this neat, proud and professional-looking poster found in almost all National Bookstore branches around the country?

Last October 6, 2012, the NBS First Move Chess Tournament series had its last edition at the Sports Loop of Robinson's Galleria.

Some of the good things that will always be remembered about this tournament:
  • Tournament schedule begins and ends on time.
  • Equipment were always enough for the players.
  • Provided beginners the opportunity to play in a tournament atmosphere.
  • The playing hall gave the players the comfort they needed to play the game.
  • Organizers made sure the tournament was organized accordingly. That's the reason why they are called organizers.
So now I say "thank you to NBS, Robinson's Malls and John Sy!"

People come and go but the game lives on.

Phl falters in Final round

The Men's Philippine chess team faltered in the final round of the 40th Chess Olympiad. GM's Wesley So and Oliver Barbosa secured a draw against their opponents on boards 1 and 2 respectively.  GM's Torre and Mark Paragua bowed to their the boards 3 and 4 of the Romanian team.  The score 1 - 3 in favor of Romania. This round 11 disaster brought us down the final standing to 21st place.

For the RP Women's chess team, it was a draw 2 - 2 with WIM Perena and Fronda winning their games on boards 1 and 4 respectively against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Lady chessers Frayna and Docena were not fortunate on boards 2 and 3. Philippine Women's chess team placed 43rd over-all.

14 and Under ASEAN Champion FM Bersamina

Unang round:

Pangalawang round: Pangatlong round: Pang-apat na round: Pang-limang round: Pang-anim na round: Pang-pitong round: Pang-walong round: Pang-siyam at panghuling round:
