SEA Games Wins & Cavite's Wows

Imagine this:

Team Philippines, with all the sports and events Filipino athletes are playing in bags the overall championship for the 30th SEA Games. Pinoys booming with pride, Netizens will take over the Internet with all the congratulations and proud to be Pinoy memes.

Now stop. Breathe in and breathe out.

You don’t need to imagine it; you have to prepare for the eventuality. The Philippines is poised to win it all.

Friday, December 6 marks the sixth day of the SEA Games 2019 – the 30th edition of the biennial multi-sport games event exclusively for South-East Asian nations. The event, which is hosted by the Philippines this time, began in great style on December 1 following a glittering opening ceremony. Not to mention the shaky start we reported when the SEA Games had its soft opening.

As of this writing, our country is on top of the medal tally with sixty-four gold, forty-five silver, and thirty-three bronze. On far second is Viet Nam with 31 gold, silver and forty-one bronze. Indonesia is on the third spot with twenty-seven gold, thirty-six silver, and thirty-nine bronze.

The top three nations have surpassed the 100-medal tally and will most likely stay on their respective spots until the torch is passed on to the next host nation: Viet Nam.
Rounding up the top six rankings are Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand with twenty-five, twenty-three and sixteen gold medals respectively for fourth, fifth and sixth spots.
The bottom half of the medal tally are Myanmar, Cambodia, Brunei, Laos and Timor Leste. Timor Leste becomes the crowd’s favorite and wishes them to get that elusive medal in the event.
And in our province, let me continue sharing the sports wows in Cavite.

I showcased last week one of the longest-running sports tournament in Cavite, CAVSCAA or Cavite Sports and Cultural Athletic Association. This week, I’ll let you in on one of the biggest secrets in Cavite, the SLCUAA or the Southern Luzon Colleges and Universities Athletic Association. Now on its twentieth season, it boasts of a strong membership of thirteen big schools with four coming from the La Sallian schools, Brent I.S. and many more. In both sports association CAVSCAA and SLCUAA, one common denominator is this school from Bacoor, Saint Francis of Assisi College. Headed by veteran sports director Benjo Viola, Saint Francis of Assisi College-Bacoor has quietly and steadily promoted scholastic sports in Cavite and in Southern Luzon for more than two decades now.

You may check out their Facebook pages for the complete results of Season 20. They also have videos and photos posted from their games.

And in football, Cavite Football Academy (CFA) teams lorded it over the 4th Governor’s Cup last November 30 at the PCU Football Field. CFA Youth won three age-group championships out of five. Noteworthy is the Born 2005 Group claiming the gold with non-substitute players. And in the Speed Regalo Padala- 2019 Youth Football League, the Under 11 Green Archers United FC Team, with players from Cavite Football Academy, wins the 2nd Runner-Up trophy.

Still in football, another CFA Team, this time the Born 2009 group, wins the Alaska Cup 2019 Championship at the Alabang Country Club last November 23-24.

Cavite province is and will still be in the next fifty years or so, the breeding ground of athletes in several sports as long as we provide the youth the avenue to learn and develop their games.

In part three next week, let me share the final review of the SEA Games 2019. For now, follow me and get updates by subscribing and liking my social media accounts at:

Your subscription will help me to continue the passion of mine and help sports in Cavite to be promoted continuously.

Thank you so much to Coach Salber Oleo Palic of Saint Francis of Assisi-Bacoor. he sent me several replies to my queries and a bunch of files from the SLCUAA and CAVSCAA tournaments.

Thank you too to the members of my FB Chat Group NBTC Journal. The coaches there are the ones running the National Basketball Training Center for Cavite Territory. They are the Area Heads and Territory Head who would regularly update us, me specifically, on the goings-on in NBTC.

Scholastic Sports in Cavite

Hello everyone.

The Season of Christmas is right around the bend and we all know why. The nights are earlier, longer and colder. No need to run those AC's full blast and then wake up in the middle of the night just to have it switched off. Y'all better lay down those extra linens and put on extra clothes before going to bed to give you a fighting chance against freezing temperature at night.
And while the "bed" weather is getting colder, inter-scholastic sports in Cavite is on the rise and it's getting hotter every minute of the day.

PCU-Dasmarinas Football dominates City Meet 2019 by winning the grade school and high school divisions. For the grade school team, they have won it for the seventh time and high school does a three-peat.

While we're at it, the Imus Football League is in full swing. The University of Perpetual Help-Calamba and Lyceum University of the Philippines-Cavite leads the 6-team tournament undefeated after Day 3. Cellar-dwellers are the ESS-Seton Saints and on the fifth spot is Imus United FC U17 team.  In the middle of the standings are EAC-Cavite Alumni and Imus Go-for-Gold teams at 3rd and 4th spots respectively.

And the 7th Amihan Cup opens on November 17 at the PCU-D’s football field. Several age groups are open for registration now.

By now the world knows that Cavite-born super GM Wesley So claimed the 1st Fischer Random Chess Championship by demolishing fellow super GM and current classical world Champion GM Magnus Carlsen. The Wesley did not lose a single game against Magnus in the said world championship. Congratulations Wes!

In basketball and volleyball, the Inter-School Basketball League and Inter-School Volleyball League, ISBL/ISVL meeting will be opening their games this November and the host venue will be St. Francis of Assisi-Bacoor City. The leagues have been around and have a huge following from around the province. This coincides with CALPS or Cavite Athletic League of Private Schools headed by Mr. Vincent de La Cerna, a teacher, pastor, basketball coach, and official.

And for two Saturdays this November, the 3x3 Age Group Championship of Scholastic Basketball Camp will be held in two different venues. For the younger age groups (Under 11 and Under 13) the games will be held at the Basketball Court of Phase c Treelane 3 Subdivision, Bayan Luma 6 on November 9. And in the older age groups (Under15, Under 17 and Under 19), the venue will be at the basketball court of The Village, Bayan Luma 3 on November 16.

Scholastic Basketball Camp (SBC) runs its developmental basketball tournaments, clinics, and camps on a year-round basis. The Personalized Intensive Training is a once-a-week training with Coach Francis and several coaching staff teaching the kids life skills thru basketball. Summer Camp and the once-in-a-blue-moon Winter Camp is also offered by SBC. 3x3 Age Group Championships and Founders’ Cup are into Season 2 now.  Coach Francis and his partners are envisioning an international-mindedness approach to delivering the services to those who need it most. Slowly and with a careful approach to expansion, basketball is experienced in the SBC way.

With the help of several individuals and friends, the vision is carried out through their aid. Reaching out to several public school students and out-of-school-youth and providing them the opportunity to play and participate, SBC is persevering to deliver its promise.

With all gratitude and humility, Scholastic Basketball Camp sends their heartfelt Salamat po to the following: Ms. Beck Madeja Velasquez of Pulso ng Makabagong Cavitenyo who took a chance on me; to Retired General and Board of Director Gamaliel Cruz of La Trinidad Academy for supporting sports in general and basketball specifically; to my friends Dan Leal of Fil-Australia, Mark Ranet, Nats Tangonan of iCare Intervention Center and Related Exceptionalities, Cynthia Magnawa of the FilCanada Community and Joseph Masinas.

Making sure the kids are served better, these guys contributed too in one way or another to the success of SBC: Leo Panaligan of NJ, Tina Holl of GER, Carlos Ansus, Elen Distor and BJ De Guzman.

It hasn't been easy this season with the departure of one major partner for Scholastic. But with God's grace, we are strengthened to continue and deliver.

All for the Glory of God!

Founders' Cup: Day 3 Match Results, Photos and Videos

Scholastic Basketball Camp-Founders' Cup - Our Day 3 games have been played and what an exciting day it was for Founders' Cup. We had our usual six-game schedule and the results are here:
16 & Under Division:

La Camelle School (59)  Win vs SV Montessori (40)
La Trinidad Academy (45) vs Charis Christian Institute (53) Win

12 & Under DIvision:

La Trinidad Academy Team A Win (54) vs La Camelle School (24)
La Trinidad Academy Team B Win (20) vs SV Montessori (10)
SV Montessory vs La Camelle School (Winner by Default)
La Trinidad Academy Team A (45) vs Charis Christian Academy (53) Win

Our tournament team standings have been updated. For the 16 & Under division, Charis Christian Institute is on top with 3 wins in as many games. On second spot is La Trinidad Academy with two wins and one lose. With one win and 3 losses is La Camelle School on third spot and SV Montessori is yet to get that first win.

In the 12 & Under division, Charis Christian Institute forces a two-way with La Trinidad Academy Team A when they beat the latter with a score of 53-45. It was a tight ballgame the entire four quarters with both teams running the ground non-stop. Up until the one minute and 25 seconds, CCI was only up by five points. With a couple of turn-overs for LTA-Team A, CCI went on to finish the game with a bigger margin, 53-45. On second spot is La Camelle School with three wins and one lose. SV Montessori, is yet to get that first win.

In the 12 & Under division, SV Montessori played with all their might and heart. Playing with only four players for the entire game, they led most of the first half. It didn't matter and it didn't show that they were missing a player at all. In fact, most of the coaches agreed they could have won the game if there was a fifth player for SVM.

In the same division, the match between CCI and LTA was a showdown and it all went in favor of the team that finds the player in a better scoring position, Charis Christian Institute would always find their teammates free or closer to the basket. What a great way to honor the game, playing as a team.

We are now officially in the second round of the tournament.  If the trend continues, LTA and CCI , current leaders of the tournament, will give us a treat for the championship.

We're halfway there! Lez' go Founders!

Update: Creative Education Interventions

Hello everyone!

It has been months, about five months may I say, since the last time I shared something on this blog. We have been very busy with our preparing the next generation. Our voluntary work at CEI, (Creative Education Interventions) has given has more opportunities to share our STAR Values in the areas of academics, basketball, chess and community service learning.

First stop, our work in Scholastic Chess Camp allowed us to train and prepare chess coaches in running their own chess camps and sessions among developmental players by giving individual consultation sessions with several coaches in the province of Cavite. We also had a hand in helping a school select a coach for their developmental program in chess. A planned year-end tournament would have been a great way to finish strong in 2018 but it wasn't meant to be. Maybe in 2019. We still are offering individual chess lessons among the select few.

In basketball, Scholastic Basketball Camp has taken a major breakthrough for CEI in the last quarter f 2018 and spilled-over to 2019. Who would have thought that we will go on to stage a successful 3x3 Age-Group Basketball Tournament in October and November? And from the network we have established in several Barangays in Imus and Bacoor, we were tapped to be the Commissioner for Founders Cup of Scholastic Basketball Camp. And in the late  2017, we got our first-ever basketball championship at the Association of Private Schools of Imus City Friendship Meet.

In the academics, Teacher C is still at the helm of our after-school reading education and tutorial work. Who would have thought?

And this year, 2019, I volunteered to run an online journal for my son's Cavite Football Academy. You can visit the site here. You can show support by clicking FOLLOW and sharing it to you friends on your social media accounts. I beg you, please share.

I tried to make my YouTube account useful by uploading photo-videos of CEI projects in the last quarter of 2018 and you can visit them there ==> Coach Francis

Most probably I'l be giving updates regularly this year. See you soon guys!
