Chooks-to-Go NBTC League 2020 Season in Cavite

This post will be our anchor and will be updated for the entire season. Chooks-To-Go National Basketball Training Center is arguably the biggest developmental program in the Philippines. 

Now on its' 13th year, there are 127 participating cities serving thousands of athletes and mentors as well. With three participating cities during the inaugural season, it has now become a nationwide program that begins in October and lasts until March of the following year with Madness in MOA. This is also called The Nationals.

The Nationals is also the time for NBTC-Coaches Convention that runs for three days with several basketball gurus sharing their expertise. NBTC All-Star Games are played and spread throughout the convention.

The Province of Cavite is a major player for NBTC. NBTC-Cavite Territory head is Coach Macky Torre. This year there are five areas with 16 to 19 teams each vying for the Regional Championship. There is one Commissioner for each area. There will only be one champion for each area. The five champions will play for the right to play in the national championship.

The champion for each region qualifies and will play at the national championship where foreign teams are invited and seeded as well.

I learned from Coach Fred of South Cavite that this year's Regional Qualifiers is a five-day festival.  For the South Area, the leaders from each bracket are:

They are the Final Four and will battle for supremacy tomorrow.

Scholastic Sports in Cavite

Hello everyone. 

The Season of Christmas is right around the bend and we all know why. The nights are earlier, longer and colder. No need to run those AC's full blast and then wake up in the middle of the night just to have it switched off. Y'all better lay down those extra linens and put on extra clothes before going to bed to give you a fighting chance against freezing temperature at night.

And while the "bed" weather is getting colder, inter-scholastic sports in Cavite is on the rise and it's getting hotter every minute of the day.

PCU-Dasmarinas Football dominates City Meet 2019 by winning the grade school and high school divisions. For the grade school team, they have won it for the seventh time and high school does a three-peat. 

While we're at it, the Imus Football League is in full swing. The University of Perpetual Help-Calamba and Lyceum University of the Philippines-Cavite leads the 6-team tournament undefeated after Day 3. Cellar-dwellers are the ESS-Seton Saints and on the fifth spot is Imus United FC U17 team.  In the middle of the standings are EAC-Cavite Alumni and Imus Go-for-Gold teams at 3^rd and 4^th spots respectively.  

And the 7^th Amihan Cup opens on November 17 at the PCU-D’s football field. Several age groups are open for registration now.

By now the world knows that Cavite-born super GM Wesley So claimed the 1^st Fischer Random Chess Championship by demolishing fellow super GM and current classical world Champion GM Magnus Carlsen. The Wesley did not lose a single game against Magnus in the said world championship. Congratulations Wes!

In basketball and volleyball, the Inter-School Basketball League and Inter-School Volleyball League, ISBL/ISVL meeting will be opening their games this November and the host venue will be St. Francis of Assisi-Bacoor City. The leagues have been around and have a huge following from around the province. This coincides with CALPS or Cavite Athletic League of Private Schools headed by Mr. Vincent de La Cerna, a teacher, pastor, basketball coach, and official.

And for two Saturdays this November, the 3x3 Age Group Championship of Scholastic Basketball Camp will be held in two different venues. For the younger age groups (Under 11 and Under 13) the games will be held at the Basketball Court of Phase c Treelane 3 Subdivision, Bayan Luma 6 on November 9. And in the older age groups (Under15, Under 17 and Under 19), the venue will be at the basketball court of The Village, Bayan Luma 3 on November 16.

Scholastic Basketball Camp (SBC) runs its developmental basketball tournaments, clinics, and camps on a year-round basis. The Personalized Intensive Training is a once-a-week training with Coach Francis and several coaching staff teaching the kids life skills thru basketball. Summer Camp and the once-in-a-blue-moon Winter Camp is also offered by SBC. 3x3 Age Group Championships and Founders’ Cup are into Season 2 now.  Coach Francis and his partners are envisioning an international-mindedness approach to delivering the services to those who need it most. Slowly and with a careful approach to expansion, basketball is experienced in the SBC way.

With the help of several individuals and friends, the vision is carried out through their aid. Reaching out to several public school students and out-of-school-youth and providing them the opportunity to play and participate, SBC is persevering to deliver its promise.

With all gratitude and humility, Scholastic Basketball Camp sends their heartfelt Salamat po to the following: Ms. Beck Madeja Velasquez of Pulso ng Makabagong Cavitenyo who took a chance on me; to Retired General and Board of Director Gamaliel Cruz of La Trinidad Academy for supporting sports in general and basketball specifically; to my friends Dan Leal of Fil-Australia, Mark Ranet, Nats Tangonan of iCare Intervention Center and Related Exceptionalities, Cynthia Magnawa of the FilCanada Community and Joseph Masinas. 

Making sure the kids are served better, these guys contributed too in one way or another to the success of SBC: Leo Panaligan of NJ, Tina Holl of GER, Carlos Ansus, Elen Distor and BJ De Guzman.

It hasn't been easy this season with the departure of one major partner for Scholastic. But with God's grace, we are strengthened to continue and deliver.

Dust and Cobwebs on our Blog

Hey there!

It has been months since I last posted here at the Cavite Football Academy blog. So much has happened since July up to this day. So let's round them up and be impressed with what our guys have been accomplishing while I gather these dust and cobwebs on our blog.

PCU-Dasmarinas High School Team. RIFA 2019-2020 Finalist.

PCU-Dasmarinas High School Football Team is playing in the Championship game of the Rizal Football Association (RIFA). RIFA is one of the toughest football tournaments in the country and to play in the finals says a lot about the program in PCU.

In Bacoor City DEPED Sports Meet, the University of Perpetual Help-Molino High School wins the gold and so is the Lyceum University of the General Trias City. In Imus City, Elizabeth Seton-South wins the gold for High School while Governor D.M. Camerino wins their back-to-back championship in the Elementary division. These teams will represent the Cities of Bacoor, General Trias, and Imus respectively, either in the Provincial Meet or straight to the Regionals, STCAA.

In the Season 2 of Speed Regalo-Youth Football League, players from around Metro Manila and neighboring provinces are having the time of their lives as they play for their clubs. Although the scheduling is truly heavy, Sundays and Saturdays have games, YFL has continued to provide the much needed year-round football competitions for our budding athletes.

Meanwhile, Cavite Football Academy, its players, coaches, and parents, visited the Governor's Office and presented their achievements to Governor Jonvic Remulla. Here are some photos I got from our group.

The Local Government of Province of Cavite has one of the most efficient models for football development in the country. Much can be learned from this.

The Imus United Football Club's Recent Accomplishments

Imus United Football Club (IUCF) has been active for less than three years and slowly, they have been joining football tournaments outside of Imus City. IUFC boasts of several youth teams ready to play in various age-groups.

As young as their club is, we can see a potential in the club's growth in terms of membership and organization's direction. With the steady increase of the game's popularity in the City, I am casting my hope and support to IUFC's success.

6th San Lazaro Cup

Here are the results for the 6th San Lazaro Cup more popularly known in Spanish as Copa San Lazaro.

The 6th Copa San Lazaro was held last April 28, 2019 at the San Lazaro Leisure and Business Park, Carmona, Cavite. Copa San Lazaro is bi-annual event and coming September, there will be a 9-a-side tournament.

Copa San Lazaro is an initiative of Manila Jockey Club (MJC) with Alab Football Club as a partner to run the tournament. The Cup was launched in 2016 and has had two editions every year except for 2017. Copa San Lazaro is sanctioned both by the Laguna Football Association and the Cavite Football Association. Games are officiated by referees from both Football Association.

Thank you to everyone who put in their time, effort and love to make this a success for Copa San Lazaro: Eduardo Ramirez De Arellano, VP for Marketing Manila Jockey Club and Mikki Cardenas.  We would also want to say thank you for the work they put in for game, Alab Football Club, an active member of the Laguna Football Association, headed by Joan Corpuz.

Thank you also to all the players, coaches and parents who, believe it or not, most likely share the same schedule on weekends and holidays.

Football Weekend for Everyone

PPL Games Update Game 1 Philippine Air Force vs Kaya FC-Iloilo Game 2 Globe Green Archers United vs Mendiola FC

Hello everyone and welcome back to our blog!

We have a full schedule of football activities today and tomorrow. The centerpiece of which is the opening of Philippine Premier League today.

Dubbed as "the top-flight association football league in the Philippines sanctioned by the Philippine Football Federation. It succeeded the Philippine Football League (PFL) which ran for two seasons. The first PPL season is set to start on April 27, 2019." - (Wikipedia entry: PPL)                                                                                                                       
After all the wait (and noise) from everyone in the football community, the day has come for the kick-off. Game one between Globe Green Archers United FC and Mendiola FC begins at 4 in the afternoon. Second game will be Philippine Air Force FC and Kaya FC Iloilo at 7:15 in the evening.

Games will be held at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium with a live telecast on 5PLUS.

And in the grassroots, games are heating up in the Youth Football League. If you want to catch a glimpse of the next Philippine football superstars, head over to Alabang Country Club tomorrow. Games begin at 8 in the morning.

The Schools and Clubs Developmental Football Festival starts today at 7 in the morning. Venue will be at Marist School, Marikina. Age Groups will be the following: Born 2007 (7-a-side), Born 2009 (5-a-side) and Born 2011 (3-a-side).

The 6th Copa San Lazaro this coming April 28, 2019 at the San Lazaro Leisure and Business Park, Carmona, Cavite.  For more details, click on the link COPA San Lazaro Official FB Page. 

And in the local news, Cavite Football Academy and Cavite Football Association prepares for the Philippine Football Federation U15 National Championships 2019. Training resumes for the Academy and selected players today at the PCU-Dasmarinas Football field. As champions for both U12 and U14 Age Groups in the 2019 PFF Regional Festival of Football, we have earned the invitation to play in the nationals this year.

For our last note, the first day of tryouts for City Of Imus Go-for-Gold 2021 (U13 FOOTBALL) will be on Saturday, April 27, at 3:00 PM onwards. Players born 2005/2006, residing/studying in Imus City are highly encouraged to join. Venue will be at the Imus City Grandstand Football Field, Pedro Reyes St. Malagasang.
