Mother's Day 2020 and Timeline of COVID-19 in the Philippines

It's been 54 days since Luzon and other parts of the country was placed in Community Quarantine. I've gone full beard with regular haircut to full beard and skinhead and then crew cut to no facial hair at all.

In the last 54 days, me and my family has prayed the Holy Rosary together every five in the afternoon. During the Holy Week, we were able to pray Rosary in full, with Novena prayers to the Divine Mercy of Sister Faustina.

And it has been 99 days since the Philippines had its very first COVID-19 case courtesy of.......drum roll please, a 38-year-old Chinese woman from Wuhan, the origin of the disease. The woman arrived in Manila from Hong Kong on January 21.

And then:

  • February 2, 2020. Second case of COVID-19 in the Philippines. A 44-year-old Chinese male who was the companion of the first case. His death on February 1 was the first recorded outside China. He suffered from co-infection with influenza and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
  • February 5, 2020.  Confirmed third case of 60-year-old Chinese woman who flew into Cebu City from Hong Kong on January 20 before she traveled to Bohol where she consulted a doctor at a private hospital on January 22, due to fever and rhinitis. Samples taken from the patient on January 24 returned a negative result, but the DOH was notified on February 3 that samples taken from the patient on January 23 tested positive for the virus. The patient upon recovery on January 31 was allowed to go home to China.
  • March 30, 2020. 128 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed on 30 March, compared to 343 cases on 29 March. 7 additional deaths reported on 30 March, and 3 on 29 March.
  • April 15, 2020. A total of 5,453 confirmed cases reported in the Philippines, 55% are male, with the most affected age group 60-69 years.
  • May 1, 2020. A total of 8,772 confirmed cases reported. 68.4% of cases reported from National Capital Region (NCR), followed by CALABARZON (13.3%), Central Visayas (7.6%) and Central Luzon (4.4%). The large number of cases in Central Visayas is attributed to several localized outbreaks in Cebu barangays and prisons.
And on Sunday, May 10, 2020, we will be celebrating Mother's Day. Let us all remember honor our mothers and all the mothers all over the world.

And in celebrating this very special day, let us remember Mother Mary, the Mother of God:

What's UP Baranggay?

The 2013 Baranggay Election is happening on Monday, October 28. To serve the community, to help and aid the neighbors and the lead the pack are some of the sold-out, tested campaign shout-outs for the candidates.

But what do we really know about the Local Government Unit? Our country's agency in-charge of the administration of the leaders of each baranggay.

I found one Vimeo video, produced by the UP Open University. Let's watch:

Million People March Against Pork Barrel

Ten years ago, former Senator Ping Lacson wanted the Pork Barrel Fund scrapped and when he took the podium and gave the privilege speech, he was torn to pieces with all the attacks coming from all directions aimed at character assassination.

Two decades ago, during my college days, Datu's Tribe screamed on top of their lungs:

And Lourd de Veyra's Radio Active Sago Project came up with this:

Watch Online: The Conjuring 2013

Scare yourself and watch this year's best horror film, The Conjuring.

I couldn't help but post this link here ==> Watch Online: The Conjuring 2013.

Here is one of the reviews I read:
"Overall, watching the film will really immerse you into the intense malevolence that terrorized the Perron family. Many creepy images you see will stick with you for a long time. All the hype was accurate this time. This IS one of the best horror films in recent years. 8/10"-  Fred Said

Looking Back at 2012-2013

Today, June 1, 2013, is the very first day of my summer break from work. After the commencement exercises last night, I had a long impromptu chat with my friend Ricky at the parking lot. The usual review of the year and plans for next year.

Let me take this chance to look back at the year that was.

It was a good year and we had so much to thank for. Hearing the speakers for the night, the two student awardees and the special guest,  made me feel like I am home. It was interesting to listen to the thoughts and hopes of the leaders of the batch. They spoke of how the school nourished their lives, how the school has become their home in the last nine or ten years. They saw the school as a place where thy can be who they want to be and they did. They are the product of what the school is.

About my former colleague, I have all my prayers for her. She was the "Mother" I had when I was a newbie in my school. I had this great opportunity to work with her when she was working as the homeroom teacher for the fourth graders. Tears did fall from my eyes but I had to hold back. I didn't want to make a scene nor be noticed that I was crying. I thought I would see her after the ceremony but she left as soon as she was done with her speech.

I wanted to tell you this but I never had the chance:

Dear Mrs. Z,

Thank you for the kindness and guidance you have shown me when you were with us. The time I had with you was short, maybe less than a year but those precious times I worked with you were remarkable. You were a mother to me without trying to. You gave me reminders about being a father and about being a teacher in Beacon. You shared stories and TOBLERON whenever you had a chance. You would always tell me that I was in a good place, I was in Beacon. I know now what you meant when you said that I was in a good place, I was in Beacon. Beacon is not just a school or a place for me to teach and work. Beacon is a family.

Thank you so much. May the Lord our God guide you thru and give you more years to shower your loved ones with the same guidance and you have given me.

And the gifts.

Of all the gifts I received from my students last night, there was one I received where I felt my hair on my neck stood and my heart beat faster. The gift was a letter from my student, SB. The student wrote simple but meaningful letter in Filipino. It was a letter of thanks and a letter of looking back. It was heartfelt and it was the first thing I showed my wife and kids when I reached home. So to SB, thank you very much!

For my chess this year, we claimed the MISAA Chess Championship for the first time. I am now reaping the fruits of  more than two years of ground work with the students. As always, students will come and go but those who remain are the ones who truly loves the game of chess. The way I see it, our club will have a solid line up in the next two years. With the material that I have now, both PYP and MYP will play at a much higher lever this coming school year. Will we find a way to play for the DEPED Taguig Sports Meet? I don;t know.

For my Language B class, I have learned more about my subject this year. I have become more relaxed in teaching the units and has befriended the Language B guide more. I got into Pinoy Graphic Novels because of my Pop Culture unit. And now, my own kids are teasing me that my new chess is graphic novels or komiks.

For learning support, I have had the great opportunity to be part of SENIA-Manila. My coordinator, Ms. Y, asked us to present in the SENIA-Manila's Gathering of Professionals and it was great. Thanks!

But I still need to learn something more. It is in "doing" that we learn something more. I have to be more meticulous in my documentation. I have to, I need to.

It was a great year. Another year done, another year of fun.

Thanks much, thanks much!

The Philippne Standard Time Law 2013

PNoy signed the Philippine Standard Time Law recently, also known as Republic Act 10535. Its no joke and if any of the TV and Radio Stations violates this law by publishing or broadcasting the wrong time, they may be fined by 30,000 to 50,000 pesos.

All government agencies are mandated to synchronize and display the official  PST in their offices and bundy clocks.

Songs for the Sick and Tired

What do you do when your home and sick? Do you watch hourly news that only speak of death, tragedy and killings made mostly by the people that's supposed to protect us? Or do you stay in bed and listen to your favorite songs?

For the past three weeks I've been sick with body pains, coughs and flu and after all the medication that made drowsy, I listened to these:

At the end of the day, it's really a blessing to have your family beside you, caring and loving wife and children: And at six in the evening, it's nice to gather as a family and pray the Angelus:

Mavs Terrorizes Lakers 2012

Obviously, winning a game in the opening of the NBA season takes more than putting four all-stars, all offensive-minded players in the same team. It was a nightmare for the newly-revamped line-up for Lakers with the addition of Dwight Howard and Steve Nash during the pre-season. With Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol getting in the team plus the two all-stars, they are really strong, on paper.

Do you remember the Lakers line-up in 2004 NBA Season? Karl Malone, Gary Payton, Shaq and Kobe in the same team. They didn't make it and poor Malone and Payton had to end their NBA careers without any championship ring.

And the October 30, 2012 NBA game between Dallas Mavericks and LA Lakers was a de javu:

Full Movie: Searching for Bobby Fischer

The movie I've been searching for in the last twenty years is here. I watched this film in the theaters as a fourth year high school student but never really made an impact on my interest in chess. This they say is the definitive movie to watch if you want to turn your kids away from the game!

So here it is, the movie Searching for Bobby Fischer:
