Board 4: Eduardo Porlage (GMA) = 6.5
My personal bet, Vince Angelo Medina, who resides and played for board 4 of Bacoor team had a dismal play but I believe this event added another training and learning opportunity for him. I was told that in one of his games, he was leading in the endgame with Q-2Ps against a lone K but got into time trouble and brought his enemy K into a stalemate position, Ouch! Yes, tears had to fall and I believe it’s only right that he does. After all, he’s only 10 years old and so many chances! He, I believe is one of RP’s young stars!
Oh, before I forget, the games were official arbitrated by a friend and a classmate of mine in the Chess Arbiters Association of the Philippines seminar, Mr. Boyet Malliam.
Congratulations! to all the people behind this successful s chess tournament. May you never get tired and lose interest in the sports development in our province.
And lastly, I‘d like to announce the founding of the Cavite Chess Federation! This was held right after the awarding ceremonies of the event. From Imus Chess Association INC, we have Mr. Asi Bagaipo as the founding president. May all your ideals be put into an effective and self-sustaining chess development program in the province.
Here’s the complete list:
President: Assi Bagaipo (Imus Chess)
Vice President: Johner Egenias (Dasmarinas)
Secretary: Ariel Panganiban (Amadeo)
Treasurer: Boyet Maliam (Dasmarinas)
Auditor: Manuel Yu (GMA)
Business Manager: Jamy delos Fado (Bacoor)
PRO: Erdie Saquilayan (General Trias)
Town Representatives:
Amadeo: Francis Calubayan
Bcoor: Ed Tunguia
Carmona: Michael Chua
Dasmarinas: Orly Pascual
General Trias: Arman Montoya
GMA: Nixon Curiosa
Imus: Bobby Barranda
Indang: Eladio Piones
Maragondon: Antonio Cobardo
Mendez: Dindo Rey Maraan
Tagaytay: Norbert Enougaso
Tanza: Ronnie Nicolas
Aguinaldo(Bailen): Carlos Binauhan
Yes! We now have a federation for our favorite game called chess. We’ll wait and see what’s next after this.
Meanwhile, the prestigious 2007 Asian Individual Chess Championship in Cebu is now going on. Grandmasters from other Asian countries have come and joined which gives our homegrown masters a tough time to land into the top ten spot to qualify for the World Championship in Siberia Russia by November.
