PLSCA is a SEC-registered non-stock, non-profit corporation organized to
promote chess as a sport to enhance and develop the minds and character of
the Filipino youth. PLSCA was formed by Bro. Rolando Dizon, FSC, in the
hope of addressing the need to develop the skills and values most needed by
the youth today and prepare them to function effectively in a highly
competitive global knowledge society. Undeniably, chess develops the
player’s ability to plan ahead, to anticipate the best possible moves for
attack and counterattack, to make sacrifices in order to gain positional
advantage, and to capture the opponent’s king while defending one’s own.
Chess also develops the values and abilities of patience, foresight, good
timing, risk taking and clear thinking even under severe time pressure.
