The 2019 Asian Southeast Games will be the 30th edition of the
Southeast Asian Games. Also known as the 2019 SEA Games, the biennial
international multi-sport event will be held in the Philippines from the 30th
of November to the 11th of December of 2019.
This will be the first time SEA Games will be decentralized
with sports competition venues are spread in (23) twenty-three cities, 4
clusters in Luzon. CALABARZON Region,
specifically Cavite and Laguna, hosts several competitions throughout the two weeks.
Our country is hosting this regional event for the fourth time
since 2005. Before this, we had the games on our shores in 1981 and 1991. Take
note also that this is the first time e-sports and obstacle course was
included in the competitions making this
This edition is most notable for having e-sports and obstacle
course as part of the games. 2019 SEA so far, has the highest number of sports
in the history of the games, with a total of 56.
This edition also showed us politics showing its head, an ugly
and monstrous one, in several instances. First the hosting of events. As early
as 2015, there have been several pull-outs from would-be and assigned hosts.
First was Brunei Darussalam, citing "financial and logistical reasons”.
Then the Philippines but pulled-out in July because of Marawi Seige but had a
change of heart in August of the same year 2017.
And then the guys who would be in charge of the games. Several
name changes, all in the name of sports (daw!)
As always, Philippine sports reflect the Philippine society
as it was, as it is and as it will be. Because I intend to make this post
informative and not political, I’d like to share the official webpage for the
games and helpful links for you to visit as a guide for the games.
