This post a tad late but it's here anyways. The opening ceremony of newly-opened Wesley Chess Cafe' happened last Saturday, January 7, 2012 at four-thirty in the afternoon, fourth floor of Robinson's Place Imus Cavite.
Notable chess personalities graced the opening including GM Wesley So, NCFP President Prospero Pichay Jr and newly-crowned 14 and Under Singapore Chess Champion FM Paulo Bersamina. Here are some photos from the camera of Mrs. Sally Bersamina, mother of Philippine chess' future, Paulo.
Then Sunday afternoon I played at the joint.
For a very reasonable price, you get your brewed coffee and an hour of chess with whoever is there ready to play with you. Chess clocks were brand new and are digital. They had different chessboards but I requested for a Eureka set, the standard for the amateurs. I played against two opponents and manage to lose only once with a Rook handicap.
This chess cafe offers you a decent and safe place to enjoy the game with a friend or with your family. Its the perfect time for chess aficionados to support projects like this one, promotes the game, sustains the project and advertises the game.
Congratulations to FM Paulo Bersamina for winning the championship in Singapore and to the owners/operators of Wesley Chess Cafe!
