Philippine Chess Blog Update

Hey there!

I'm back here in our country since the first week of July but this is just my second post since then. I have been receiving chess news in my inbox from NM Bernardino, from Woodpusher Mandirigma and both from NAPCA and CAAP so I can't really say I am in the dark regarding Philippine Chess these days.

What has happened while I was away? Let's see...

  • GM's Joey Antonio, Darwin Laylo and Wesley So qualified for the World Cup 2009
  • NCAA Chess is on it's 2nd round and the top three are Letran, San Sebastian and La Salle Greehills. It's the 4th spot that's being fought between the Perpetual Daltas and San Beda Red Lions (at least in the Juniors section)
  • Shell National Active Chess Championship has began and the most recent one was the Cebu City Leg and by November we will see who's the king in the 30 minute time control among the juniors and kiddies of the land.
  • MERALCO Chess Club helped raise funds for the Philippine Para Chess Team with GM Joey Antonio and they doing an encore this time with GM Eugene Torre.
  • Chess tournaments here and there which is a big boost for the federation and the community itself.

So far, am so lazy in doing stuffs for my chess improvement but good thing that's going is that chess is a course of study in my school and I teach it as part of the physical education curriculum. Yes, MGIS is offering chess as a subject for interested students and so far, out of 128 students, I have 7 students enrolled in the class for this term.

Maybe this is a start for me or maybe the end for this blog for good and I'll start a new one which will chronicle the path for my personal chess training. I really don't know what will happen but most likely posts will come in trickles and I'm convinced I'm not as affected about it as I was before.

So bye for now and enjoy the game while the bug is still there.!
