We have our 8th Grandmaster in the name of Wesley So! Hooray! Wesley So getting his
3rd and final GM norm in the last round of the 3rd Pichay Cup against GM Ehsam Maghami Ghaem of Iran!
Wesley with white, drew in 19 moves of Sicilian Najdorf. GM Ehsam offered the draw, that's all he needed to get that coveted title. A draw which will forever be remembered by Wesley!
Congratulations to you GM Wesley! Congratulations to Congressman Prospero Pichay! This is the fruit of all your efforts into supporting and spearheading all NCFP endeavors! To all the people in the NCFP, be proud for you are part of this!

I agree that CONG. PICHAY and others' role and support are instrumental in the surge of Wesley So and our other young talents' recognition and achievements.
ReplyDeleteNO THANKS to the self serving and corrupt CAMPOMANES and ABUNDO who looked after and enriched themselves from chess during the past 50 years of their so called leadership of Philippine chess. Are you kidding me?
They should do the country a favor by just getting out of the way and let the new Philippine chess leadership, like PICHAYs, take over.
The Filipinos, specially our so called "chess journalists" too (NOT KIKO :) should wake up and give credit to those due them, NOT CAMPO NOR ABUNDO. Are you kidding me??
Well done Wesley. All of us Filipinos throughout the world have followed your exploits and are so proud of you.

What a waste of 50 years of Campos' reign that the Philippines have lost its chess power to China and India and wasted our past chess talents.
Thank you Kiko for your chess updates, and most important for allowing us old chess foggies to tell the true story of Philippine chess developments.
Our past chess talents Balinas, Barcenilla, and others now playing abroad have suffered so much. We can see now the rapid development of our young chess talents, and most important, the support of the public and private sectors who are not afraid of where their monies and contributions are going to.
But we have long ways to go.
