SEA Games Wins & Cavite's Wows

Imagine this:

Team Philippines, with all the sports and events Filipino athletes are playing in bags the overall championship for the 30^th SEA Games. Pinoys booming with pride, Netizens will take over the Internet with all the congratulations and proud to be Pinoy memes.

Now stop. Breathe in and breathe out.

You don’t need to imagine it; you have to prepare for the eventuality. The Philippines is poised to win it all.

Friday, December 6 marks the sixth day of the SEA Games 2019 – the 30th edition of the biennial multi-sport games event exclusively for South-East Asian nations. The event, which is hosted by the Philippines this time, began in great style on December 1 following a glittering opening ceremony. Not to mention the shaky start we reported when the SEA Games had its soft opening.

As of this writing, our country is on top of the medal tally with sixty-four gold, forty-five silver, and thirty-three bronze. On far second is Viet Nam with 31 gold, silver and forty-one bronze. Indonesia is on the third spot with twenty-seven gold, thirty-six silver, and thirty-nine bronze.

The top three nations have surpassed the 100-medal tally and will most likely stay on their respective spots until the torch is passed on to the next host nation: Viet Nam.

Rounding up the top six rankings are Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand with twenty-five, twenty-three and sixteen gold medals respectively for fourth, fifth and sixth spots.

The bottom half of the medal tally are Myanmar, Cambodia, Brunei, Laos and Timor Leste. Timor Leste becomes the crowd’s favorite and wishes them to get that elusive medal in the event.

And in our province, let me continue sharing the sports wows in Cavite.

I showcased last week one of the longest-running sports tournament in Cavite, CAVSCAA or Cavite Sports and Cultural Athletic Association. This week, I’ll let you in on one of the biggest secrets in Cavite, the SLCUAA or the Southern Luzon Colleges and Universities Athletic Association. Now on its twentieth season, it boasts of a strong membership of thirteen big schools with four coming from the La Sallian schools, Brent I.S. and many more. In both sports association CAVSCAA and SLCUAA, one common denominator is this school from Bacoor, Saint Francis of Assisi College. Headed by veteran sports director Benjo Viola, Saint Francis of Assisi College-Bacoor has quietly and steadily promoted scholastic sports in Cavite and in Southern Luzon for more than two decades now.

And in football, Cavite Football Academy (CFA) teams lorded it over the 4^th Governor’s Cup last November 30 at the PCU Football Field. CFA Youth won three age-group championships out of five. Noteworthy is the Born 2005 Group claiming the gold with non-substitute players. And in the Speed Regalo Padala- 2019 Youth Football League, the Under 11 Green Archers United FC Team, with players from Cavite Football Academy, wins the 2^nd Runner-Up trophy.

Still in football, another CFA Team, this time the Born 2009 group, wins the Alaska Cup 2019 Championship at the Alabang Country Club last November 23-24.

Cavite province is and will still be in the next fifty years or so, the breeding ground of athletes in several sports as long as we provide the youth the avenue to learn and develop their games.

Chooks-to-Go NBTC League 2020 Season in Cavite

This post will be our anchor and will be updated for the entire season. Chooks-To-Go National Basketball Training Center is arguably the biggest developmental program in the Philippines. 

Now on its' 13th year, there are 127 participating cities serving thousands of athletes and mentors as well. With three participating cities during the inaugural season, it has now become a nationwide program that begins in October and lasts until March of the following year with Madness in MOA. This is also called The Nationals.

The Nationals is also the time for NBTC-Coaches Convention that runs for three days with several basketball gurus sharing their expertise. NBTC All-Star Games are played and spread throughout the convention.

The Province of Cavite is a major player for NBTC. NBTC-Cavite Territory head is Coach Macky Torre. This year there are five areas with 16 to 19 teams each vying for the Regional Championship. There is one Commissioner for each area. There will only be one champion for each area. The five champions will play for the right to play in the national championship.

The champion for each region qualifies and will play at the national championship where foreign teams are invited and seeded as well.

I learned from Coach Fred of South Cavite that this year's Regional Qualifiers is a five-day festival.  For the South Area, the leaders from each bracket are:

SEA Games 2019 News and Update

Hi everyone. I'll be updating this post every now and then to keep up with all the news coming in from our friends who are either participating in the games as athletes, coaches, reporters or spectators at the #SEAGamesPH2019.

 As of today, November 29, Friday we have the following updates:

1. Philippine Polo Team will be playing in the championship game and they will be playing against reigning champions Malaysia. Three teams were tied with a 2-1 win-loss record with Brunei losing on tiebreak while the Philippines and Malaysia gets a higher tiebreak and play in the championship. Sunday’s games will give us the battle for Third between Brunei and Indonesia and the Philippines vs Malaysia at 3 pm. The venue will be at Iñigo Zobel Polo Facility in Calatagan, Batangas.

2. Senator Manny Pacquiao and Nesthy Petecio are the torchbearers and will be lighting the cauldron. The lighting of the cauldron will be held at New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac, while the opening ceremonies will unfold at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan. 

3.  After several requests and demands, yes demands, from civic groups for free tickets to the SEA Games, Cayetano announces Free SEA Games Tickets in 53 Events. It would be interesting how the tickets will reach the hands of Juan de la Cruz.

4. Philippine Men's National Football Team Azkals are in a must-win situation to barge into the semi-finals. Tonight, Philippines play against Malaysia, one loss and PH says goodbye to the next stage. And in the Women's side, here's a post from the Official Website of Southeast Asian Games 2019:

"THE Philippine Malditas pulled off one of their finest performances yet last Tuesday night, holding mighty Myanmar to a scoreless draw at the start of the 30th Southeast Asian Games women’s football tournament at the Binan Stadium in Laguna."

5. Tropical storm Kammuri threatens to dampen the SEA Games and is predicted to make landfall in Central and Southern Luzon. Central Luzon would be Subic and Clark and Southern Luzon would mean CALABARZON. And those two regions are hosts to several SEA Games events. Let us all pray Kammuri changes direction.

Sports Weekend and the Week that Was

Hi everyone!

I just got back from a trip and then kaboom! Sports in the news for many good reasons and for some really embarrassing ones. First is our guy, often mistaken as me (hahaha! pare ang layo!), Phil Younghusband retires with the most number of goals, from the Azkals Philippine National Men's Football Team.

In an Instagram post, the 32-year-old Fil-British striker said he was "hanging up his boots." 

Younghusband is the top goalscorer in Philippine history, with 52 goals in 108 caps.

And still, in football, Cavite Football Academy is the Champions for the Born 2009 Alaska Cup 2019.

Southeast Asian Games is here now and Cavite Province hosts several events. Tagaytay City hosts Cycling and Skateboarding while Ayala Land Vermosa in Imus hosts Underwater Hockey. There will be football matches too which be held at the Imus Sports Oval in Baranggay Malagasang. This is also the home of the Imus United Football Club.

And with all the news about SEA Games, we cannot escape the complains and disdain of athletes coming from participating nations about the lack of coordination from the organizers themselves. Sad it is happening but I am hopeful that this will be addressed immediately.

Let's take a look at some of them:

La Camelle School dominates 3x3 Age Group Championship

La Camelle School (LCS) claims the championships for the 3x3 Age Group Championship for Under 11 and Under 13 divisions last Saturday, November 9 at the basketball court of Phase C, Treelane 3 Subdivision, Bayan Luma 6 Imus City.

A vastly improved play and line-up, LCS teams showed they came prepared with their pick and roll plays and dribble drive-kick out plays that made their opponents dizzy and out of their comfort zones.

Playing in the finals against the LCS-B boys for Under 13 division were the boys from Team Quatro. A rag tag team that went on demolishing the competition only to hit a wall when they met the would-be champions in the elims and the finals. These boys from the public schools made heads turn s they showed their skills in front of everyone that day.

Placing third was LTA-Dream Fox as they beat LCS-A 10-8 that went into overtime. Marky Sajul played the hero as he shot the 2 pointer in the overtime to make sure LTA is represented in the top four at the end of the tournament.

El Ian Parojinog from Team Quatro was awarded the Most Valuable Player distinction as he played great defense and offense for his team.

La Camelle School-B finished the competition with a 5-0 record.

In the Under 11 division, La Camelle School boys did a repeat of what their kuyas did, a perfect win-loss record of 5-0.

Team Quatro placed second as they lose against LCS in the finals with a score of 15-1. The score does not reflect the game though as the Quatro boys played through until the end of the game. Placing on third spot is LTA-A by winning against LTA-B with a score of 12-5.

It was another family day for everyone as we spent time watching and playing basketball together.|Feedbacks about the availability of parking space, relaxing place and easy access to sari-sari stores made us decide to return on Saturday at the same venue for the older age groups competitions.
